The Story of Camp of Compassion

Camp of Compassion began as a shared journey between two dedicated fathers who had spent years campaigning individually for the legal access to cannabis in the UK. In 2018, after much advocacy, cannabis was legalized for medical use, and both friends became registered medical cannabis patients. Yet, despite this progress, the stigma surrounding cannabis use remained.

Three years ago, their paths crossed, and they began working together, culminating in a successful event in July 2023. This collaboration sparked the idea for Camp of Compassion—a place where community and understanding thrive.

Camp of Compassion isn’t just an event; it’s a community-driven experience open to everyone. Activities are shaped by those who attend, fostering a space where everyone can contribute. Each event features a communal bonfire, serving as a gathering point for connection, reflection, and ambient music to create a soothing atmosphere. As night falls, guests can marvel at the bright stars and the moon, enjoying the serenity of summer evenings. The campsite has naturally flat and firm ground, making it accessible for people with walking difficulties, mobility scooters, or wheelchairs. Additionally, we welcome different caterers at each event, but participants are also welcome to cook their own food if they prefer, adding to the communal, flexible atmosphere. For convenience, there is a Co-op in the nearby village, just a 15-minute drive from the campsite. Tea, coffee, and cold drinks will be available, but if anyone has a preferred beverage, they are more than welcome to bring it along. Alcohol is permitted, though it will not be for sale, and we kindly ask for it to be used responsibly. Camp of Compassion is what you make of it.
